Il traverse la for\u00eat du\u00a0Mans, quand un homme lui appara\u00eet, l\u00e9preux en haillons, hurlant cette terrible mise en garde au roi. Il est fascin\u00e9 par le mis\u00e9rable, lorsque le bruit d\u2019une lance heurtant un casque d\u00e9clenche en lui un terrible r\u00e9flexe\u00a0: se croyant trahi dans sa t\u00eate d\u00e9j\u00e0 malade, il se rue sur son escorte qui fuit, tue n\u00e9anmoins quatre hommes.<\/p>\n<p>Quand l\u2019\u00e9p\u00e9e du roi se brise enfin sur une armure, ses compagnons le ma\u00eetrisent \u00e0 grand-peine et l\u2019attachent \u00e0 un chariot. L\u2019escorte reprend le chemin du\u00a0Mans. On crut qu\u2019il allait mourir, il revient \u00e0 la vie. Mais son d\u00e9sespoir fut si grand des \u00ab\u00a0crimes\u00a0\u00bb commis par lui durant cette sc\u00e8ne, qu\u2019il ne s\u2019en remit jamais tout \u00e0 fait.
